Still, Polite24 don't you think they are unjustly overpaid? Afterall they don't really do anything to deserve that much money.

Polite, you have about as much sympathy for people as a hungry shark.

It's posts like this that cause your immaturity to really stand out. People sometimes endure a lifetime of bullshit and they have little tolerance for a stereotype.

Maybe if you tried to understand where Fat Man is coming from, you'de find yourself at least meeting his view halfway.

Or, if you want to continue to be a petulant childish ass, then try this... live an entire lifetime of abuse, then come back here and say with a straight face that you yourself aren't at least leary at minimum of a certain group of people.

Another thing you don't get is that much of the time, Fat Man deals with what he's talking about by generalising and inserting a little humour into the conversation to try and give it a bit of levity. It is something that should be no more than laughed off at worst, if you don't agree with him.

Perhaps you need to just grow up? Maybe, dare I say, grow a thicker skin?

I don't agree with every little thing everyone here has to say, but one thing I don't do is callously brush someone else's opinion aside without first trying to understand it.

And I understand yours. You figure, oh screw these people, I haven't been through this, so what's good for me is good for them too.

I've read Fat Man's story, and I did truly feel sorry for him. And I do realize that's probably why he says some of the outrageous things he says, but that doesn't mean I'm going to always agree with him. In fact, I disagree with him strongly on just about everything, but I can see why he says some of the things he says.

As far as athletes being overpaid, yeah they probably are. However, these are extremely talented people who put a lot of hard work into what they do. You can make the argument they don't help people like teachers or doctors, but they do provide countless amounts of people joy and happiness.

Should teachers and doctors be paid more? Yes, ESPECIALLY teachers. Doctors are at least wealthy, teachers not always so much.

Everyone deserves more money than athletes, teachers especially, and also VALVe. Who only 70 million dollars yet it wastes alot of it on all its products for us, athletes don't do anything for their fans, they sometimes give money to charity, but that's to increase their reputation.

If they give money it's just for their reputation, and if they don't then they're just scumbags?

So either way they're fucked?

Hey JIMBO, I don't need or want your pity!!!

Oh! So you disagree with me, that discrimination against the disabled is wrong, and you disagree with me, that pedophilia is wrong, and so you believe that almost EVERYTHING I say is wrong!!!

I'm soooooooooooo sorry Charlie! I guess I stand corrected.

Oh yes indeed! Athletes truly are extremely talented people!

Yeah, it take a lot more talent and skill to kick an oval shaped ball over an iron post, or to put a spherical ball through a metal hoop that it does to create a work of art, to do an oil painting, to compose a symphony, to build a radio controlled model plane, to build your own telescope grinding and polishing a lens or concave mirror by hand, or to build your own computer.

Gee, those things are simple childish things. Any retard can do that!

Well, I guess I'm a total fucking retard because I don't know how to kick an oval shaped ball over an iron post, or put a spherical ball through a metal hoop. That obviously takes a lot more skill and talent.

So, I guess I'm just a fat little retard!

Yeah! I even look like one of them morbidly obese little retards with Prader Willi Syndrome or something!

Obviously I think pedophilia is wrong.

It's not simply playing the sport. It's the level that these guys do it at, professionally. That's what puts it on par with all the things you mentioned.

What are you trying to do? Get on my good side? (Just kidding.) Although I'm not a teacher, I'm married to a former high-school math teacher; and our older daughter is about to start teaching math classes at a high school. Both my father-in-law and my mother-in-law taught in the public schools, and my father founded the Architecture Department at Texas A&M before he became Chairman of the Architecture Department at Rice University. Just blabbing, I know, so I can brag about my dad.

What you're saying is . . . it's the level that these monkey-boys do sports professionally, that puts it on the par with all the things I had mentioned!!!

So, kicking an oval-shaped ball over an iron post, or putting a spherical ball through a metal hoop is on the par with creating a work of art, composing music, or building an astronomical telescope, or assembling and programming a computer.

Oh! I see!

If sports is done professionally, then it is on the par with all I had mentioned.

So, I guess that at the high school level then, sports is on the par with a cat playing with a ball of string or a dog fetching a stick.

But when done professionally, when being paid millions of dollars to do it, then it's on the par with all that I had mentioned above.

Well, I guess I have seen and heard it all now! Thank you!

Now I'm going to gouge my eyes out with a spoon, puncture my eardrums with an ice pick, and take a head first dive out of my 6th floor apartment window.

Because I have seen and heard it all, and there is no more to see and hear!

Thank you very much!

Goooooooood byeeeeeeeeee!!!

Hey Polite24!!! You're an idiot, a complete moron!

You know that???

Nah! You don't know jack-shit!

You're clearly very ignorant when it comes to just how skilled professional athletes are, so I'll just leave it at that.

Can monkey-boy grind and polish a concave mirror for a 16 inch Newtonian reflector telescope?

Can monkey-boy assemble a computer?

Can monkey-boy build a radio controlled flying model plane?

Can monkey-boy do an oil painting?

Can monkey-boy even read or write beyond the 3rd grade level?

Yeah! Professional athletes are highly skilled!

(Falls off chair, rolls on floor laughing.)

Based on everything else I've seen you say here, and to him, I am unmoved by this claim.

You can see some of the things he says, but you fail to acknowledge them in any sympathetic way. Oh, but wait, you disagree with him on just about everything, shooting your own claim that you understand where he's coming from.
Polite24 wrote:As far as athletes being overpaid, yeah they probably are. However, these are extremely talented people who put a lot of hard work into what they do.
Talent doesn't justify a ridiculous salary. It never has, and it never will. And when the human race evolves into something a little more civilised than it is at present, overpaid talent will move to another medium. Until then, I and anyone on this board will bitch about 'professional' athletes being overpaid all we like, and we will feel justified in doing so. Get over it. The world doesn't owe you a society full of sports lovers just because you like it anymore than it owes us a society full of nerds just because we love it.
Polite24 wrote:You can make the argument they don't help people like teachers or doctors, but they do provide countless amounts of people joy and happiness[./quote]

Misguided happiness, controlled by the mainsteam media, manipulated by the sporting organisations that leech the money off these happy morons. Ah yes, Sunday and football games. Let's have an excuse to act like crazy animalistic assholes. As long as it's popular (as you love claiming it is as your 'final' argument), and as long as it makes us, the professional sport corporations money, let them kill each other on a regular basis, at games, in the street, act like children, etc... as long as it's popular and profitable, let them do it.
Polite24 wrote:Should teachers and doctors be paid more? Yes, ESPECIALLY teachers. Doctors are at least wealthy, teachers not always so much.
I don't believe for a minute that you really believe this. You're probably sitting there smiling in amazement that your pro animal stars are making so much more money than these people, just because in your eyes it furthers your argument.

Once again you have failed to attempt to meet anyone here halfway on an opposing point of view, and that includes any posts below this one that I'm responding to. Try again. I'll shoot that down too.

Just because I feel sympathetic towards a guy doesn't mean I'll agree with him, don't be ridiculous.

I really don't know what to say to your "sky is falling" attitude towards athletes being overpaid. Athletes have been paid a lot for a very long time. Since about the mid 70s, or around there.

I do believe what I said about teachers and doctors. I don't know how to prove that to you, but yeah.

You didn't shoot anything down. Don't get cocky over there.
