US Obsessed with sports

Post by SEAL76 »

I have yet to figure out why Americans are so focused on sports. Not only do they watch pro and college sports they watch TV shows and movies about sports. I can't think of anything more rediculous than an adult male who pays $30 plus dollars to buy a shirt or jersey with somone elses name on it. Then they wear it as though they were a member of the team. I was a member of SEAL TEAM. We were also called Frogmen. I will wear SEAL TEAM and UDT clothing because I was an actual member of the team. I don't have any other kind of team regalia. I can't think of doing something so juvenile. America needs to grow up and stop buying that stuff. They need to stop paying to watch games on TV. They should refuse to pay the admission that is charged for sporting events. And no city should subsidize sports stadiums. There is never a return on those stadiums that benefits the taxpayer. They have seats at the NY Yankee stadium that go for over $1000 a pop.

All I can figure is that some people have a deep need to be part of a large crowd (such as identifying with a political movement). People take pride when they are a part of something that is supposedly larger than themselves. Other people feel the need to be distracted from their personal problems or the rather large problems that the country faces. Other than this pop psychology, I have no idea. Anyone's guess is as good as mine. I never had any interest in watching any kind of a ball game, not even when I was a boy. Never saw the point of it.

I find it hilarious when you guys try to find the reason people watch sports. They do it because they enjoy it, bottom line. Same reason you guys play video games. Do your video games have any real value? No.

Once again, you are straying big time from the point of this website. I don't give two shits if someone enjoys watching sports, just don't treat it like a personal religion that you need to proselytize on everyone else.

The big difference is most people who play video games have the courtesy to never assume anyone else is into video games, and they only deal with and talk to other people who like video games.

I have in my 35 years never had ANYONE shove a video game down my throat. But sports and religion? A completely different story.

I find it hilarious that you continue to obsess over our opinions. There you go again stereotyping us. I don't play video games. I would say that rap music has no real value. Does sports teach moral values? No. Did sports ever liberalize Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, both of which promoted sports like crazy? No.

Enjoying something is not the same as obsessing over it. Little kids can dress up like their favorite superhero or dare I say it sports hero. Grown men and women should not do that. It shows a level of immaturity that is a best questionable. "The Death of the Grownup" is one of my favorite books. Read it if you have the chance. It explains some of why education has gone down the toilet in this country. Sports has a great deal to do with it.

Certain rap music has no value, but neither does a lot of rock or metal, which you guys seem to cherish so much.

Ah, ha! More stereotyping. I don't even like metal. There's even a lot of rock I don't like at all.

Rap is for thugs and wannabe gangsters, Metal and Rock are for a better community. Rap is so retarded I didn't even sing when they forced us to.
