Another sporting role-model. Not.

Post by Agent 47 »

The "All Blacks" are the national Rugby team of New Zealand.

They recently won the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

So they are the current world champions.

So they are "the best of the best."

Apparently.

Here is how one of "the best of the best" likes to relax in his spare time...
The Courier Mail wrote: ALL Blacks winger Zac Guildford has been accused of staggering naked, drunk and bleeding into a bar where he allegedly assaulted two people.
November 13, 2011

The incident happened in the small South Pacific nation of the Cook Islands on Thursday night, according to a report in the Herald on Sunday, quoting witnesses.

Guildford, who has a history of problems with alcohol and was publicly reprimanded by the All Blacks management during the recent Rugby World Cup, is in the Cook Islands to attend a friend's wedding.

According to witnesses, he appeared at Trader Jacks Bar and Grill dripping wet, naked and with a gash on his forehead believed to have come from a motorcycle accident earlier in the day.

He then allegedly punched one man who asked if he needed help and then hit another man across the back of the head.

A staff member at the bar confirmed to AFP that reports of Guildford "walking into the bar naked, bleeding and assaulting at least one person," were true but she would not comment further.

Guildford's mother told the Dominion Post she was aware of the incident but was also not commenting.

The Herald on Sunday said patrons in the bar described Guildford's behaviour as appalling and a New Zealand woman, identified only as Fiona, said he was extremely drunk.

"His eyes were gone, he was completely out of it," she said, adding that after the All Black hit her 60-year-old friend he jumped on to a stage where "he seemed to realise he was naked" and tried to cover himself.

Restaurant staff then rushed to wrap an apron round Guildford's waist as he bolted into the kitchen.

During the World Cup, the 22-year-old Guildford admitted he had an alcohol problem and said he was taking steps to bring it under control.

But that can't be true, Agent 47! :( After all, we know that sports build character and that athletes are superior to nonathletes.

The article doesn't say if he was arrested by the local police. He should have been. Why should a jerk like that guy be given preferential treatment? Of course, many fans don't care about their heroes engaging in outrageous or dishonorable conduct off the playing field; and they don't want such misconduct to even be reported. All they care about is having a winning season. They don't care about moral principles. Sadly, such is the nature of the beast. :|

Witness the student riot that took place at Penn State in the U.S. Were the students upset because an alleged pedophile coach hadn't been reported to the police by university officials for nine years? No, they were upset because the head coach had just been fired. Many Penn State fans have clearly shown all they care about is the football program. They disregard the victims and wish they had kept quiet. As far as they're concerned, the victims should not seek justice, but instead should suffer in silence. Ironically, if Coach Sandusky had been reported immediately (as he should have been), Penn State's reputation would not have been tarnished, but actually would have been enhanced. The usual response to the victims seems to be to crush them. After all, the program is far more important than the well-being of any victim. :x

Yeah, it gets me how these guys keep getting referred to as "heroes."

Whereas the reality is that the very best that can be said about any of these sporting stars, is that they are at best, pretty bloody ordinary human beings.

Ahhh, the dark underbelly of the sports culture - the best antidote to sports hype ever invented!

But of course, 42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
