What do you mean "any noncompetitive activities besides hating" ? I'm very competitive about hating. After Fat Man, I'd say I'm the second loudest "hater" at this site. I take real competitive pride in it !!!

i don't like competition, which is why I didn't get into sports besides being naturally athletic...
just also curious as to why this forum was created rather than a more positive sounding forum... like the "people's alliance for finding other productive things to do not revolving around football (or whatever your country tends to worship)"

OKAY
do you guys partake in any other activities, competitive or not, besides hating sports?
why not make a more positive forum called "the people united in finding more productive things than throwing a ball around"
though physical exercise is productive and a great anti depressant (though, ya, we shouldnt pay people millions to throw a ball, I actually want people who stand outside in the rain and snow on construction work to get more pay, it's unfair for them! geezy!)

By the way, if you want to become a REAL professional tennis player, you'll need to undergo a sex change operation, either from male to female, or from female to male. OK?
Yeah! I'm 60 years old now, so I invented hating sports!recovering_fan wrote:@ n3rdg4sm - Well, you're not a spammer. That's clear.

I go out abducting football players and basketball players, and in my kitchen I have a great big meat grinder, and I like to take these jocks and grind them up to make them into lunch meat to feed the homeless.
And I own a nation wide chain of mortuaries the specializes in funeral arrangements for jocks who had died.
And finally . . . when ever I have to read forum posts by moronic sports fans or jock-tards, I wear these special protective eye goggles.
So, as anybody here can clearly see . . . . .
I invented hating sports.
I have it down to a fine art form!

Greetings. I welcome you as a genuine member, as opposed to a spammer.
I prefer not to call myself a sports hater. I have a "live and let live" attitude. I'm not a hater; I'm a critic of the culture associated with the most popular of the school sports. There's a big difference between being a hater of people and being a critic of a culture that can be changed.
This forum is a bit of a catch-all. The answer you receive to your question will depend upon who gives an answer. Even though those of us who are members of this forum and support this website are currently few in number, there still is remarkable diversity among us. We're even capable of disagreeing among ourselves.
If the particular controversy in question is simply a matter of preference, there is no argument to be had. What's to debate about a preference? "I think chocolate ice cream tastes better than Neapolitan ice cream." "No, you're wrong; Neapolitan is definitely the best." What's the point?
Do I enjoy any noncompetitive physical activities? Well, for several years now I've been working with a personal trainer at a local health club on a bodybuilding activity, which is something I wish I had done when I was a teenager instead of being reluctant all these years to join a health club until I was 57 years old. I love bodybuilding! One of our newest members (dannj) is a 66-year-old man who has an extensive background in the martial arts. Like I say, we're diverse.
You say you work out your abs by vomiting. How do you do that? Are you serious, or are you just putting us on? Your claim sounds just a little bit trollish, but what do I know? Please tell us you're not a troll. (Of course, trolls can be a source of online entertainment.) Don't make us blue; tell us true ...

Re: Do You Like ANY Sports, Haters?
A word of explanation is required at this point. We've had a big problem with spammers posting in our forum for several months now. The situation got to be so bad that I, as the sole moderator of this forum, was banning about 20 spammers every single day. So, the forum Admin (Skul) put new software into place that requires each post submitted by a new member to be approved by me. Of course, I disapprove posts submitted by spammers; but I approve all other new members (including trolls). Until a post submitted by a new member has been approved, the other members (except for moderators and Admins) and unregistered visitors cannot read it because it hasn't been put on display yet. (Of course, if a moderator or Admin doesn't bother to log in, then he won't be able to see the post, either.) This means the other members and visitors won't be greeted with the sight of unwanted spam, but this also means that a new genuine member will have to wait until each post of his has been approved (until the new genuine member has posted the requisite number of times to place him outside of this restriction). I apologize for this slight inconvenience.
Edit: Thanks for responding.
You raise a good question about the "tone" of this website. I wasn't present at the creation, but I've learned that the creative force behind this website was reacting to sports fans who, in his opinion, talked way too much about sports at their place of employment, driving him to distraction. So, he reacted with an "in your face" approach for this website. I can't honestly say if a more moderate, conciliatory approach would have been better; but you raise a good question. Granted, this website does have a limited appeal; but I still believe in it. Each of us has his own specific reasons for being here.
Incidentally, in a few days I won't be in the habit of posting so late at night; so, you won't see me post in the middle of the night like this again. I want to post at decent hours only. It has to do with doctor's orders.

Re: Do You Like ANY Sports, Haters?
Well I tend to like sports or physical activities that aren't commercialised and rammed down your throat by fans who can't understand why you don't like them. Something like field hockey, which is almost totally amateur and popular in universities, is fine as for all it can get a bit physical with the sticks tends to be played and watched by people who want to do something different from the other ball games. Similarly, martial arts in their purest form, such as olympic judo, are worthy activities that keep their practitioners fit and for which they receive little reward. While I tend to find the big football tournaments as exciting as watching paint dry, something like the Olympics is fine with me as it is dominated by amateur athletes and the openign ceremony is good.

Re: Do You Like ANY Sports, Haters?
Not really, to answer the original question. Even in my past, if I was forced to go to a baseball game, or sit at someone else's house watching sports (and bored out of my mind), even if I reach those really rare moments where I let my intelligence drop to try and actually watch the game, the fans will usually make sure to ruin it for me. Sports generally encourages drunkenness. Drunkenness makes most sports fans loud and stupid. And that usually entails delightful activities like yelling at the TV and throwing things. Same thing if you're actually in a sporting arena.
Examining the difference between a simple game and what makes it a sport helps too.
Example, I would say I like bowling, but that doesn't count. It doesn't count because I don't subscribe to 'bowling teams' nor have I ever played it competitively, nor will I.
I played bowling with my wife and some of her friends last year. We had general fun. And we didn't fret about our damned scores (gee, maybe that's why we had fun?).
In essence, maybe it isn't some games themselves that I hate. It's a certain type of people who ruin it for everyone else with a certain type of attitude...they turn it into a sport. I think it's just easier to say I hate sports, simply because you can't typically, in most situations, separate the sports tards from the people who want to just play and have fun.
Another example...to help me better explain this. Ever play croquet? I did as a kid. Never had any issue with it. It was fun. It was a game. It's a seemingly innocent game, and I wouldn't consider it a sport. Well, fast forward to my second marriage, people are playing croquet at an extended family function, lots of my wife's extended family are there, we start a round of croquet, everyone's having a decent time with it, and we're all laughing at our own mistakes. Two jocks who had been 'tossing a ball' off on the other side of the park we were in come over, drunk, and want to join in.
Totally ruined the game for the rest of us, as you probably have surmised by now. Had to turn it into a massive competition, goad everyone else, yelling at how they suck everytime they made a mistake, etc.
And this was a croquet game, for f***'s sake. A. cro. quet. game. Only a sports fan could ruin a go**amn croquet game.
So, maybe in working this out as I go, I don't hate games in essence. Just the people who support it with the elite extemist attitude that everything must be a visceral contest...
...and DEvolve it into (yes, you guessed it)...a sport. I think a sports tard has the ability to ruin a game of Monopoly if you give them the chance.

Yeah, and sports tards are such sore losers that if they were losing at Monopoly, they would rob the bank at gun-point!Millhouse wrote:Another example...to help me better explain this. Or yell and scream when they start losing the game, and flip the board over. We should write out a list like that in a new thread, of how competitive sports tards ruin perfectly good, innocent, fun games. And just have fun with it.

Just out of curiosity, Millhouse, when you bowl or play tennis, do you even keep score?Millhouse wrote:Examining the difference between a simple game and what makes it a sport helps too.

I understand that some women don't (for example), but it has always seemed to me that a game without scoring is like a movie without a plot.
I realise, of course, that it's only a game, and so I find it very saddening when my more competitive friends lose to me at tennis and then take it badly. I wish they would just get over themselves. One of my friends even got pissed at me when I had to retire from a set of tennis we were playing because I had injured myself. I mean -- what the hell ! -- didn't he realise I was injured??? Some people sure need to get some perspective on games.
