Sports in the workplace

During your daily grind at work does the topic of sports ever creep its ugly head to become a topic of conservation? If so, how often and from a score from 1 to 10 rate how annoying it gets. I'm fortunate enough that sports hasn't come EVER come up yet but who knows if that will last.

In Biotechnology class (cell culture), one of the students opened his yap about some stupid baseball game that the Philadelphia Phillies won. I live and attend community college in Southern New Jersey. To my great dismay, my air-head fluff-brained biotech professor immediately jumped into the conversation with him as if she really gave a DAMN about this stupid sport.

What is a shame is that I can vent some of my feelings about incredibly important issues regarding ethics, politics, science, animal research, economics - most issues, if they are somehow tied in with biotechnology.
She will listen to me and give the appearance of interest. But, I can still sense that her brain is nowhere near mine in capability of analyzing important issues.

Yet, sadly, she showed her "true mental colors" by responding with interest and excitement
over baseball, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with biotechnology.

No, but then, I work at home. Not that I don't have to deal with it as a topic of conversation elsewhere. I've heard of schools and offices having days where everybody is asked to dress in team colors to celebrate the professional or school sports teams for some reason or another, and I always wondered how anybody who didn't dress in those colors was treated, especially in the work environment, where everybody is SUPPOSED to be more adult about things, but when it comes to sports, people always act like high-school kids, and not very bright ones either.

I am sad to report that my fluff-brain biotechnology teacher showed her true moronic sports-loving colors this week, even more so than last week, by exclaiming TO THE CLASS how excited she was that some sports team called "The Phillies" from some city called "Philadelphia" in some state called "Pennsylvania" in some little country called the "USA" won some INSANELY and INAPPROPRIATELY named series of games called "The World Series" in some obscure game known as "baseball".

My biotech professor makes ALL Americans look bad. She is a shame and a blight on our great nation.

oh yeah.. of course it has. But it's so common that I hardly notice. I work with mostly guys in an on-call, fire station sort of environment. The big screen TV is always on and if there's a game on anywhere --any kind of game --that's what it's turned to. What's worse is everybody assumes everybody else wants to watch football or sports too! They'll walk into a room with a few people watching some random show and loudly announce, HEY MAN, THE GAME'S ON and walk up to the TV and turn the channel just like that and settle their fat ass into a comfortable chair -and nobody minds. New guys are always amazed when I stand up and say I don't watch sports -any kind of sports. I guess, to them, it's like saying I don't like music --any kind of music!
When I was 17 or 18 I had a friend who had a friend who didn't like music. And kind of music! Is that weird or what? I never met the guy but I suppose it's possible.
But does it come up? Sure! All the time. On weekends, sometimes the games go on and on and on, one after another after another, with the TV turned up so loud I get a headache. On those days I find something to do to keep me busy.

All anybody here talks about is sports. Nobody really talks to me since I don't like sports. Although when I first started here, somebody asked which team I support between two state colleges, and when I said neither, they just assigned me theirs and said I was on their side.
I fucking hate sports.
I am American, btw. I noticed a lot of non-Americans on here and just wanted to let you know that we are not all crazy.

In my Social Studies class, my teacher always brings up weekend games, right in the middle of a discussion! I have tried asking him politely to stop, but apparently he doesn't listen to the students with IQs of 179. He continued to ramble on about the games, wasting not only my study time, but my time to get ALL my work done. The chapter was about 5 pages long, but the book's paragraphs and text is small! I didn't have enough time to finish the assignment and, thus, had to finish it in my free time - Study Hall and lunch.

Today at work the topic of sports finally came up but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing because of the actual content. It seems a basketball team was losing alot of money and going to be sent off somewhere else to its new owner. It's only a shame the team just has a new name and isn't truly dead....yet. The good news is this is likely to happen to other teams and those "loyal" sports fan will have to start buying jerseys for a new team but the bad news is there will ALWAYS be another team...

Okay, this sports team wasn't making alot of money from merchanise and other things so this rich nerdy guy(I think) came to the rescue and bought the team and may have changed name or not. I was happy that the end of a team almost came about but sad that there always gonna be sports team around because there always gonna be sports fans(I hope I'm wrong).

I hope you're wrong, too! God, I'm sick of them trying to waste time and money to upkeep a team... especially with the economy being how it is. They could use the money more usefully - like investing in more useful stocks! I wish I could just slap them across the face and say "DUH!"
