You live in England, right? I hear that there are an increasing number of people in England who subscribe to a certain belief system. According to said belief system, people are born into the world ... desiring different things. All desires are natural and beautiful and human, and none should not be nuked! However, some pleasures are considered more "mature" than others--according to said people. I think such a girl would find it very gratifying to date a classically trained pianist, with highbrow tastes, like yourself. (And I've heard you're not exactly poverty-stricken. That also helps, with certain types of girls.)

One question: do you like brunettes?

Yeah, count me in as well! I'm only joking, RF. You never know what you might get with these "dating services". It might make me wish I'd remained single.

Is that true that you asked 200 girls out and every single one of them turned you down, wibberley? I'm sorry, but that does seem like an exaggeration to me. I must have asked out, or offered to buy a drink for about 30 in my whole life. That also produced an endless chorus of "No fucking way!" with only one success. Believe me, it hurts me to know that I've failed with about 96.6666% of all women I've spoken to in my 29 years on this earth, but to be turned down by 200 by the age of 22... that definitely is bad. I'm close to giving up now. Nonetheless, if you choose to pursue these ambitions of acquiring a nice young lady as your partner, go for it. Don't turn to me for advice, because... that'll only lower your chances!

I'm not really one to offer advice on the subject, but perhaps if you tried 300 times, your success rate would go up, and you would have more than 10 successes. For my part, I think I am going to watch Groundhog Day everyday from now until the middle of December. While watching that movie, see if you can calculate how many do-overs it took before he got things right. It provides perspective.

Also, :? if you are chasing the type of girl who prefers ripped footie enthusiasts, then she may possibly be doing you a favour by saying "no." :? She is sparing both of you a miserable night out. (But who am I to judge? I don't know whom you have been asking.) :|

i have been reading the letters page on this site and was in absolute histerics.i particularly liked the one about id rather be sipping a pumpkin latte while reading rue morgue than watching sport.i didnt quite get the rue morgue bit.the murders in the rue morgue was ashort story written by edgar allen poe in 1845.it was in fact the worlds first detective story and featured the worlds first ameteur sleuth called c.august dupin along with his stupid sidekick.later on in the 1880s sir arthur conan doyle openly admitted that poes characters inluenced his own creation sherlock holmes and dr watson.in rue morgue aterrible double murder is committed.a woman and daughter are found with their throats cut .the daughters body has been shoved up the chimney.the neighbours all of different nationalitys cannot concur on the language utterred during the murder.in fact it was a giant orang utang that had escaped from its owner.a film version was made in 1931 very loosely based on the story with bela lugosi as dr mirakle who injects his victims with ape blood.karl malden was in a 1953 versoin called the phantom of the rue morgue.this i think was in 3d or todd ao vision.for this they had special reflective screens to help the arcs. in fact i pathelogically hate sports.i like the one where the guy is queing at the checkout and someone asks him if he saw the game he replies he doesnt do sports in fact he watched animal world and the other guy just backs off.people just dont get it that you dont like sports and even at this point they are still quite friendly about it until you ask if they listened to the opera from the met last saturday night, then they turn round ,look at their accompliss(THESE GUYS CANNOT COPE WITH BEING ALONE,EVER) then they get angry

Truth be told, I'm not a fan of Elvis Presley. I've not really heard much of his stuff, but to be honest, I find it disappointing how somebody like him, a superstar who was probably one of the celebrities on top of the world back in his heyday, would let himself get involved with drugs and come to such a pitiful end. His death was four years before I was born, but I frankly fail to see why celebrities, who have so much to lose from doing so, would turn to drugs and let their lives fall apart and disappoint millions of fans who look up to them. I did notice the DVDs of his films that were coming free with the Daily Mail a while ago... didn't watch any of them. I don't think he's diabolical, but I'm not really interested in his music. And he is, sadly, another celebrity who was on top of the world and ended up dropping right down to the ground, upsetting all his fans, when he more than likely had plenty of power at his disposal to prevent himself from doing so.

Wibberley,

I have never really been able to appreciate opera, mainly because it frustrates me that I can't understand what they are saying. How are you able to follow it? By knowing the languages? By reading the libretto in advance, or scene-by-scene plot synopses?

I have been to a number of operas in the past. There were giant super-titles at the local shows, and at the Met in NYC they had "Met titles." What do you think about subtitling operas?

Well, there are many other people out there who like opera and 1920's music. Why don't you search for forums for opera enthusiasts? I'm sure there are many. You're definitely not the only person who cares for this stuff. Many others do appreciate the classics, but they're hard to come across in everyday life.

Do you mind if I ask why you hate sports fans so much? You seem to despise every last one of them. Not that I have a great deal of respect for people who centre their lives around watching play games, but my disdain for sports is nothing compared to yours. What exactly turned you into a sports hater? Do tell more.

Also, just so you know Wibberley, I am not a sports fan. I call myself "recovering_fan" because I feel sports-viewing is a disease to be overcome, and I did too much of it back in the day. (I pretty much look on TV-viewing in general the same way.)

Cheers,

Well, I'm glad you came here, recovering_fan. Doesn't matter if you used to be addicted to sports on TV - you came to your senses eventually, which is more than I can say for most people in that position!

So you're not interested in any TV at all? That's a pity. There is so much more than sports, but sadly, it doesn't seem like it as often TV channels will pre-empt the shows they funded themselves for damn sports games. There was an example of that over here in Britain which I have attested to numerous times, but I really don't want to repeat it again. Everyone else here would have heard about it from me anyway.

I see you've now attained the rank of "Regular". Nice one. We need all the regulars we can get. It is a task which I have taken to with honour.

I myself don't watch too much TV. I can get the news on the computer, and lately I haven't been very interested in other programs. Other than history documentaries, and movies on the On Demand channel on weekends, I normally don't watch any television, although lately I have enjoyed watching My Name is Earl once every couple days if I've done all the work I had to finish, then I can just relax and watch it.
