I am a college football player and I was just writing a paper on opposing viewpoints of sports in schools. I know that proponents of sports will say that sports teach the importance of skills like discipline, dedication, hard work, and teamwork just to name a few but I didnâ??t know what you people had to say about it so I googled â??I Hate Sportsâ? to figure out what arguments people on the other side had.

What I have found here for the most part disgusts me and I pray to God that you are not Americans and if you are that you remain an overwhelming minority.

The fact is sports arenâ??t simply games. They are educational tools that are just as important to human development as learning to read or write. They teach you how to be a man, they teach you how to win, they teach you how to depend on others and also to never let your team mates down.

In fact, I bet I can go back in time and tell you what day you lost your testicles and still havenâ??t found them to this day. I bet you were in gym class in elementary school and stepped up to bat and struck out. You were then ridiculed as you should have been and quit like a pussy only to go home and play with your prancing ponies and Barbie dolls.

I used to think the same way about my grades, but, and I thank God for this, the things I learned in sports taught me that when I have a weakness to never quit and to keep working at it until I make it a strength.

Another thing that pisses me off is when you say athletes aren't successful. Let me tell you something. You can get a 4.7 GPA by blowing all the teachers you want and you'll find out one day that when the going gets tough you don't have what it takes to succeed.

Youâ??re all mad at yourselves because your whiney attitudes wouldn't fly in sports. Thatâ??s why you pussed out. You also lack the basic competitive drive that is, for the most part inherent in all Americans (thatâ??s why we love sports). In closing, I'm glad you weaklings have found a support group for how sports ruined your life because a big muscle-head ran through your studio en route to an amazing super bowl victory and broke your fucking easel and all your paintbrushes.

If by being a man and winning you mean using brute force to crush and oppress overs then yes sport does teach you that. If by teamwork you mean using others as mere tools to reach your selfish goals then yes sport does teach you that. We use something called intelligence to get our good grades, ever heard of it? First! I think that collage and university is for smart people, if you are an idiotic jock, you are NOT aloud to say your in a collage or university. Some people need scolerships to afford to get into a LEARNING post-secondary school, but most are wasted on JOCKS!

i am one of the most competitive people i know, if i play sports with friends, i usually win, im very competitve at everything. I play sports sometimes and am actually quite good. The actual playing of it I think is where you can "learn" teamwork and all that other cliche bullshit. But to glorify a bunch of overpaid fucks on television or in a stadium, that IS simply a pointless game that teaches NOTHING! What practical value does it have to society, it achieves NOTHING. My hate for sports stems from its overhyped glorification and misguided values it instills in sheep, not the actual playing of it. I was very successful in sports, and only later did I develop a strong dislike for lets just say "team sports." When I look back, I really had more fun just playing unofficial "intramural" sports!! Without a raving madman screaming what a scumbag I was for missing a block, for example. That's not how you deal with kids. You look them in the eye and explain to them what they need to work on. It doesn't mean that you need to be "easy" on them at all! They WILL respond to that I have found.

"Team sports" doesn't teach "discipline, dedication, hard work, and teamwork" at all. Not at all. It's just the same "social politics" that we see in everyday life. The coach has his "pets" who repeat every word he says like gospel, and the coach rewards him. I don't know about girls' teams, but I'm just speaking from experience. Our cap'n seems like the type of locker room jock who snitches on his teammates, repeats all the coaches slogans, and just basically ass-kisses for playing time! Not to mention swaggering around the locker room to impress his male teammates. lol

It reminded me of an incident some years ago when I Nebraska football player got angry with his girlfriend, punched her out, and dragged her down a flight of stairs by her hair.
