Except to people who like sports.

We are your neighbors and friends and relatives. We are completely normal people who live completely ordinary lives except for one thing --we cannot understand the attraction or value of sports

And the fact that many of the members of this board were subjected to extreme cases of bullying during their school years, and so think that all sports fans are carbon copies of their tormentors.

Don't misunderstand us -we believe in fitness and staying healthy. There's nothing wrong with a neighborhood softball game or shooting hoops in the driveway. But we think there is something wrong when people base their lives on the outcome of a game.

For the sake of this introduction, we will ignore the fact that career actors base their lives on the outcome of a movie, and artists on artwork, and musicians on music, and video game designers on videogames.

We think there is something wrong when grown men collect baseball cards and are willing to pay for the opportunity to watch other people play and have fun.

We also pay to watch movies and buy books to read, but forget about that part. Also forget about art collectors, people who collect special editions of movies or games and people who go to book signings of their favorite authors.

We think there's something wrong when people think we're unmanly or not a true patriot because we don't follow sports!

First fair thing said in this introduction, even if it's not completely true. We ran out of extreme things, so we placed this in here for filler.

And we especially think there's something wrong when our favorite show is interrupted for a *&@!^%$#@!! sporting event!!!

Because it's not the form of TV entertainment I want to watch! My TV show is more important than the other guy's TV show! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEW EPISODE OF NCIS NOW!!!!!11

I have a lot to say about your above post, but I am low on time and may update my post later. Not that I watch NCIS, but when was the last time the Olympics were interrupted by NCIS? Sports are given the same privelages on TV as presidential speeches, if not more.

This is not true. I am good friends with several athletes in my school, however, they are not like most athletes I know: They aren't extremely competetive, they don't brag about their tournaments to students and teachers, they receive good marks in school (actually, there are several jocks in my school who receive good marks, but that is because when they miss several classes quite frequently, the teachers don't assign them projects and homework, and they don't have to catch up with the class, which makes class easier for them, therefore they get the grades without the brains. For some reason, teachers like athletic students who cause trouble in class and don't work for their grades more than the students who hand in their work on time and don't cause trouble in class.), they don't care as much about their social status, and they don't pick on people who are less socially advanced than them, in fact they defend them. That is what seperates them from the characteristics of most athletes I have met. I would say that from my personal observation, and through my experience, 1 out of 8 athletes don't turn out to be complete assholes. So no, I don't automatically assume all athletes to be carbon copies of my bullies.

Books educate people, they get rid of illiteracy, they teach history, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, and everything you could ever want to know. Don't ever compare books to baseball cards. Baseball cards can't tell you about black holes, the big bang, the bonding of molecules, World War II, Greek mythology, fossils from ages ago, and I could go on and on about this. You said you are a Christian correct? Then would you choose a baseball card over the Bible? I sure as hell wouldn't, and I'm not even a Christian.

Yeah, for a person who claims to be indifferent on the sports issue he seems to be quite eager to defend the jocks and even worse, the conduct of the 4chan /sp/ trolls on this website. He's also comparing the collection of baseball cards to reading books. For someone with no interest in sports, Nick, why are you so keen to defend them and nitpick at all the comments made on this website about them? If you were truly indifferent you wouldn't bother. Calling Fat Man a pedophile is particularly vile, especially considering the fact that he was raped by a man who was in his forties, a fellow inmate in the mental institution where he was incarcerated when he had a nervous breakdown at the age of 17. Is flaming only against the rules if Fat Man doesn't like you or if you play sports? You complain about 4chan posting here, but when Fat Man insults people repeatedly, it's a different story. I would apologise to Fat Man if he showed me any redeeming qualities that would make apologising worth it.

I just went to that web page at Encyclopedia Dramatica and while it mentions my being raped at the age of 17, there was nothing there calling me a pedophile.

I just did a more thorough search using [Ctrl] [F] and typed in pedo and it does not show up. You don't have to type in the whole word, just part of any term you're searching for, and the word "pedopile" doesn't show up. Any search term found is highlighted in green, and nothing shows up.

Yes there is a lot of harassing bullshit on that page by GirlVinyl but there is no article there calling me a pedophile.

A lot of other insults, yes, but not that.

Regrettably, you have a point about Fat Man insulting others. But calling someone a moron isn't liable; calling someone a pedophile is. If my worst enemy said that he had been raped by a pedophile when he was a kid, I wouldn't mock him, as you did Fat Man. Instead, I would react sympathetically to him. When Fat Man first mentioned in this forum that he had been raped by a pedophile when he was 17, I was horrified. By your callous indifference to this fact, you have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you lack compassion for others. As I've said before, even abusive critics of this website have often been tolerated far longer than trolls or abusive posters at other websites. By the way, you say that this website is intolerant of sports fans and athletes. You hardly take a "fair and balanced" approach and recognize that there is intolerance on both sides. Read the various "Letters" columns and forum posts by Samdaman and SpeedofLeicht, for example, and tell me how tolerant they are. But I don't think you're really serious about this issue, anyway. The only reason you came to this website was to get a rise out of as many of us as possible. All you're doing is just another form of trolling. At least Samdaman, bigoted as he was, sincerely believed in something. You obviously don't. The word that HugeFanOfBadReligion would use is "opportunist."
