Am I a MSTie? Does a bear defecate in the forest? The entire Earl family, all of us -- myself, Mrs. Earl, Earlette No. 1, and Earlette No. 2 -- are hardcore MSTies. Our older daughter is the proud owner of pewter figurines of Tom Servo and Crow T. (the "T." stands for "The," it really does) Robot. I discovered this hilarious series one evening during the late 1980s as I was channel surfing and stumbled across the Comedy Central channel when they were showing the MST3K (which stands for "Mystery Science Theater 3000" for those of you who might not know) presentation of the Bert I. Gordon "classic" Earth Vs. The Spider. I admit that I had watched this dopey movie several times before on TV when I was a kid, but this time I noticed a difference. There was a silhouette at the bottom of the screen outlining the backs of the sort of plush seats that you find in cinemas, and there were three characters making snide comments about the movie. But instead of being irritating as they would be in a cinema in real life, they were absolutely hilarious. I was hooked instantly. Among my favorite MST3K movies are Earth Vs. The Spider (of course); Attack of the Giant Leeches; Monster A-Go-Go, who is dubbed "Creepy the Clown" ; The Killer Shrews, which are dogs fitted with Halloween masks ; Hercules Against the Moon Men; The Giant Gila Monster, which Dr. Clayton Forrester calls "a cute little lizard" ; Attack of the Eye Creatures; Terror From the Year 5000; and, of course, the unforgettable Manos: The Hands of Fate, which is regarded by bad film critics to be a leading contender for the worst movie ever made. Believe me, it's even worse than Plan Nine From Outer Space. The titles of these movies say it all. Yes, members of the Earl family have been known to sing the MST3K theme song.

Here's an item that shouldn't cause any controversy amongst us, but instead should be a source of many laughs. For your viewing pleasure -- or submitted for your approval, as Rod Serling would say on Night Gallery -- I've posted a youtube link that activates all the videos (one right after the other) that comprise a single MST3K in its entirety; namely, one of my favorites, which is Monster A-Go-Go. You shouldn't have to click on each video individually. In other words, you shouldn't have to do anything but just sit there like a zombie in front of your computer screen and watch the show uninterrupted. I just hope that Viacom doesn't have one of the videos removed anytime soon. Enjoy!

That's awesome! I've been a big fan for a long while. I've got em all (minus a few of the KTMA episodes that have never surfaced since they were aired) Not to cause a riff, but im more of a mike nelson guy. I guess i just associate with him better, and of course the more they practiced at writing, the better they got, but they are all good. Manos sure was a bad movie, but the worst movie i think they ever did was the Castle of Fu Manchu. Manos was just poorly executed (more of a ten minute movie, with lots of filler to make it full length), but the Castle of Fu Manchu just didn't have anything that even resembled a story line. Some of the episodes i really enjoyed were the newer movies they started doing. By the time those 80's movies rolled around, they should have known better. Episodes like, Space Mutiny, Laser Blast, Time Chasers, and Riding with Death.

Ahhh, fellow MSTies!

I've got quite a few episodes on my PC and watched them to death. Every so often I'll watch them again for a laugh or seven.

I got into it after seeing MST3K: The Movie on TV late one night several years ago. I couldn't get to sleep, so I turned on the telly and the first thing I saw was this old movie with three voices making funny comments. Loved it. The next morning, I scanned the papers to see what the show was called. From then on, I was a MSTie.

I'm more of a Nelson fan, too. Probably because he's the first one I was... 'exposed' to.

And yeah, I like that Rifftrax stuff they're doing. I guess they missed MST3K and decided to continue the legacy their own way.

Ah, I see I've got company, which is not at all surprising. When it comes to ridiculously inept movie monsters, nothing beats the incomparable and unforgettable shrieking giant lobster in silhouette of Teenagers From Outer Space or the extremely slow-moving, shambling carpet monster in The Creeping Terror, whose victims had to crawl into its mouth. I recently showed the second MST3K to a friend of mine. The movie was so bad that I felt rather embarrassed, but my friend practically laughed his head off. And now he wants to see it again!
