International I Hate Sports Club

I posted a anti-sport thread on another site. Here are some of the reactions.
"I mentioned in another thread the guys who say behind me on the boat going to work last week. Allow me to recap to the best of my memory:

Father: So I was watching the game yesterday and my son came in wearing a Red Sox hat.
Friend: Uh oh
Father: So I grabbed the hat off his head and grounded him.
Friend: Yeah, you gotta get to that before it becomes serious.

That may not be the EXACT dialogue, but that last line is EXACTLY what his friend said. They consider such a petty and stupid thing like "rooting for a different team" to be similar to sodomizing a badger while invoking God's name in vain. It's disgusting. There are very few sports fans, especially baseball fans who are capable of playing any of these sports themselves. Sure they may have the initiative, but they lack any inertia...actually no I take that back, most of them have too much inertia and if they were to, oh say, get on a paid of ice skates, or attempt to run down a basketball court, they would suffer so many simultaneous heart-attacks, the doctors on site would have to call the records book just to make note of it.

It's disgusting. Sports are disgusting. Sports fans are disgusting. Jocks are tools with little to no personality and it pisses me off to no end when I have to deal with these retards.

Being blisfully ignorant is fine if that's your thing, just bliss somewhere where I can't hear you."


"I'm don't hate sports so much as teh coddling of atheletes. Professional Athelete's are the worse, Koby Bryant or OJ anyone? Really do we need to pay professional atheletes millions of dollars to work half a year? Well unless you're in MLB or NBA, I at least respect the NFL for keeping thier season relatively the same length for quite some time, the NBA and MLB seasons now last 9 months or so and really get old after 2.

Personally I think they should do away with professional leagues like NBA, MLB, and NFL. Keep it on the college level, don't pay athelete's any more than a scholarship and for every dollar spent on athelete scholarships must be matched in academic scholarships. Every dollar spent on atheletes matched in some other program. This will keep costs down in a lot of instances as Universities won't be able to spend huge amounts of money.



As for racing I think that is something that needs to be kept at the pro level only because of the danger involved, but the season needs to be limited. Right now the NASCAR circuit covers January to October which is way too long."

I think it's disgraceful that 'professional' sports players get paid so many millions a month. What a waste of money! Think about how much better the world would be if that money was given to research institutes to find cures for diseases that, as of right now, have no cure! What about devices to make general living a lot easier? Maybe that money could be used to create a new, cleaner fuel source? How about using it to help third-world countries?

Think of all the stuff that could be a possibility right now if we didn't pay those stupid sports players more money than Bill Gates has in his bank account!

Man, that is some SICK, twisted stuff. ha ha ha ha ha ha I wonder what it <b>means</b>. What is it that Red Sox fans do that is so objectionable? Ludicrous. Ridiculous. But perversely interesting. A good subject for a mental illness study. I can't understand the intense rivalry between different sports fans. To me, they're ALL knuckleheads. Is it really so important to distinguish between mere ignorance and plain stupid? It's really all the same.

I wouldn't even respond to this guy or consider his opinion --he's already too far gone --he's a walking night-of-the-living-dead sports zombie and it's too late to save him. If a guy even <i>knows</i> what MLB means or how long any season his, you can tell he's already been munching on sports cadavers and is infectious! Stay away from him! He'll turn YOU into a zombie too! <shudder>

?!WTF? I'd like to hear more about that. I don't see the correlation. Is that a positive or a negative thing? I tend to think that the Catholic church, during the middle ages, was an abusive, self-centered, profit-oriented organization. I mean, sports are nothing but a money-making machine but they don't promise an after-life as far as I know.

I have to say I also hate the world cup. Watching an occasional game of football is okay, but when whole channels are devoted to it and you see flags etc on posters, magazines and even food, it goes too far. Adverts about the world cup on channels which are not showing the football are annoying. The faces of the England squad staring at me while promoting something sickens me. They are making a raking from the adverts.

The stupid TV shows (Inside Wayne Rooney and that Steven Gerrand show) are pointless and just demoralising. I wouldn't mind the world cup as much if England didn't make such a deal of it and make everyone else within broadcasting range hear about it. I can't even escape it when they lose and get put out, because then we get shows about why they lost and how it could have been prevented with the show heaping scorn on whatever player happened to be unlucky enough to make a mistake. The only world cup I have enjoyed to date was France '98, even though Scotland got stuffed early on, it was a great atmosphere.

Of course, when England lose there will be the obligatory riots, once again showing the world that England is home to loads of vandals. You don't see Scotland, Ireland or Wales getting their panties in a bunch after losing, so why does England get so worked up about it?"

Sports are scary and impossible. At this minute, instead of helping my mom clean, my dad is sitting in front of the TV watching some soccer match. (Might I add, he hasn't liked soccer until yesterday)

Today, I went to lunch downtown with my parents and some other people. A 20 minute drive turned into almost an hour because of a baseball game. (I like baseball, and whenever I go to games I actually manage to stay in my seat until the 4th inning. Then I just wander around)

Football is everywhere - not just during the world championship but all year round. It's just a game, and I see no beauty or merit in it at all. It's mostly a waste of money - the incomes of most football players in the world championship are insane. Yes I know that actors and other celebrities make lots of money too - but that doesn't make it right.
Sorry if this offends sports fans but I will never ever see any beauty in any commercial form of sport whatsoever, and please don't try to persuade me to join the sports loving population.

I'm glad you never lambasted others who didn't like sport, but there are plenty of other people who do. People (especially children) are pressured into the sport culture, and if they don't like sport they are treated like misfits. We should be encouraging our children to enjoy reading, learning and creativity. Aggression is something the world could use a lot less of. Sadly, and I'm guilty of this myself at times, people can aggressively pursue, or push, a non-aggressive agenda. For example, getting so passionate about a human rights issue that one gets angry when another doesn't accept their opinion.

In all honesty I am quite happy within my limitations, for example why should I run down the street and get all sweaty and out of breath when I could just walk with only the possibility of becoming slightly flushed?

There is still the fact that people are forced into needless exercise, which starts in school. P.E. has always been a pet hate of mine, as it is needless and forces children into a dull regime which brings out competitive behaviour in a manner which depresses less able kids ( I was one due to my exceptionally bad coordination skills) as they get picked last for team sports etc. Would it not be more sensible, certainly for primary school kids, to let them run around and have fun?

Compulsory P.E. ends in forth year for scottish students (sorry don't know about the rest of the UK) after which you get a free study period to do pretty much what ever form of work you wish. However, they are now changing this to make P.E. compulsory for all years. That's right, 18 year olds being forced to run back and forth in a gym. In order to make space in the timetable, one or two study periods a week have been scrapped! In other words, instead of learning something useful or reading, all students will be forced into a pointless regime which promotes competitiveness and ignores intellect.

Are you suggesting the Kids get paid for Racing?
If you keep it at the Pro Level than how are you going to find the next great driver?
Its not that Dangerous, Its not like people die all the time, Driving on the Highway is more dangerous and I dont see people complaining about that
