Sorry, Greencom. The reason why we've gotten off topic is because SportsGuy92 seems to have left us (at least for now). In the meantime (if you haven't already), you can read the four posts that I addressed to him on Page 4.greencom wrote:Aren't we getting completely off the topic?

He's certainly the most reasonable and open-minded critic who's ever visited this website. I wish he'd stuck around. The people who really irk me are the haters who come in here only one time, deliver their volley of insults, and then leave (as if they're too cowardly to defend their views). Perhaps I'm naive, but someday I'd like to see an actual dialogue with one of these haters that would lead to greater understanding on both sides. Of course, the people on both sides have to be willing to listen.
OK, I confess. I did it!Sergey wrote:Earl wrote:There's nothing to apologize for, Greencom. You weren't being an old grump. Despite his initial criticisms, SportsGuy92 actually was a nice guy. Maybe Sportsguy92 turned into chocolate and died.

Earl:
As I said before football players' popularity and the arrogance comes from the fact that what they enjoy is validated above all other sports or activities. If you want to know what high-school football coaches actually encourage their players to act with character and avoid bullying, mine does. In August of last year, we were having our our two-a-day practices, with one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and a lunch break in between. We were all eating lunch in the hallway by the gym as we always do. Some members of the marching band walked down the hallway with their instruments, and a few players began to throw food at them. They told their band director about this, who then told our head coach. At the beginning of the afternoon session, during the time that is designated for us to hear him speak, he told us, "I heard that some of you guys were throwing food at the band members. Shame on you. They work hard too, and they are at every one of our games to support you. I don't know exactly who it was, but the next time you see them you need to apologize for it." This is not an exact quote, but that was his general message. To answer you question about knowing for sure that there are no athletes like Hoffschneider at my school, 1) I know most of the athletes at my school and 2) Even if I didn't know them, if they do the kind of extreme bullying Hoffschneider did they would get a reputation fast.
So, I do have high praises for Coach Joe Ehrmann.Fat Man wrote:Joe Ehrmann is a rarity, the odd man out, because most football coaches are meat-heads who don't give a damn if their players act like drooling, slack-jawed, knuckle dragging, moronic apes.
But Joe Ehrmann is different. He actually teaches his players to behave more like human beings.
Too bad there are not more coaches like Joe Ehrmann.
Coaches like him are too few and too far between.

So I responded by saying "Oh! I see! It doesn't look good to see elderly people or disabled people sitting down on benches in front of your precious SPORTS CENTER! Eh? Well, if you looked bad before, you look even worse now! Your SPORTS CENTER now looks evil and sinister, more like NAZI HEADQUARTERS! The only thing missing is the pretty red flags with the swastikas!" It never occurred to them that people who are elderly or disable would like to sit down whie waiting for a bus.
No, I didn't hang up right away.Sergey wrote:Fat Man wrote: When I called the Don Haskins SPORTS CENTER, I got their secretary, a bubble-headed bimbo with the IQ of a steam iron, and she said that the reason why they had the benches removed was because it didn't look good to have those benches there.

What was the response, I'm interested. I hope you didn't hang up afterwards.
That's probably because they were the one's responsible for the removal of the benches, not the athletic departmentFat Man wrote:
