I'm not sure, correct me if I'm wrong.

But I think "on the ropes" is a boxing or wrestling term.

It's when someone is pushed toward the side of the boxing or wrestling ring and is on the ropes.

Now why do they call it the boxing "ring" or wrestling "ring" when it's rectangular.

A ring is round!

Which reminds me of a joke . . . . .

A: How do you drive a jock insane?

B: Put him in a round room and tell him to sit in the corner!

OH NO! I USED A SPORTS TERM! What has gone wrong with me? Please, somebody come and save me from myself!

Well, since you come to mention it, Fat Man, I don't believe that wrestling should be counted as a sport at all. Have you seen how rehearsed and fake some of the fights look? Yeah, they make them look brutal but why is it the wrestlers always seem to get back up a few times BEFORE the loser is finally counted out? All of the fights seem to follow the same basic routine which is why I believe it is staged.

And the bouncing off the ropes on the side of the ring to be knocked flat by the other player also seems a bit far-fetched. Need I mention the laughable and occasionally exaggerated reactions to certain blows?

To me, wrestling is not a sport, but a faux-violent show put on to entertain thousands of people. Even though I think it's fake, that doesn't mean I'd want to do it. I don't particularly like the sound of being grappled by a man wearing ONLY tight pants! At least in footbore the players are all fully clothed!

My point is as follows: wrestling is just for show. Even if it is real there is definitely some drama involved. I can tell.

Yeah, anybody with a brain knows wrestling is fake.

Now, boxing is real, because a boxer gets hit in the head so many times that he eventually becomes a punch-drink drooling moron, so the blows to the head are definitely real.

So, boxing is real. All too real!!!

The object to boxing is to see how may punches you can get in to defeat your opponent. It's also to see how many blows to the head you can survive before you finally retire and become a drooling moron for the rest or you life.

That's the object to the game.

Of course, anyone who gets into boxing in the first place is a moron. But a professional boxer goes from being just a moron to becoming a drooling moron.

The longer a boxer's career, the more moronic he becomes.

I don't care how much money a boxer makes during his career. In the end, he's still a looooooooooser!

He loses what's left of his brain, if he even had a brain to begin with.

Why don't you add another forum topic about how boxing sucks.

I'd like to believe that and I have good enough reason to but I remember once seeing a short clip on TV about how people had actually been killed in professional wrestling before so I think the pain seen in it may be real to some extent. However I don't remember the clip so well; the deaths probably could have been caused from fighters jumping too high onto the other wrestler, missing and instead landing head-first on the ground. I doubt the neck would stand up to 250 or so pounds of solid muscle slamming down on it. I don't remember seeing anything about wrestlers being killed because of blows inflicted by other wrestlers. So the fighting element is more than likely fake.

That's true. There's a boxing segment on the film "Jackass Number Two" where Johnny Knoxville ends up concussed and needing to have stitches in his head after taking on a pro boxer in a department store so I am more convinced as to the real dangers of this than the brutal yet overblown show they call wrestling.

As for the idea to have a boxing board on this forum... I second that idea. It's another one of those brainless yet dangerous contact sports that prove how moronic sports culture can be. And of course, boxers aren't exactly renowned for their intelligence. I doubt any enraged boxers will be coming onto that board pleading a solid argument seeing as how their brains have been smacked into three separate pieces after all those blows to the head! So that would be interesting. But you don't seem to hear as much about boxing as you do about things like footbore, basebore and hockey. I know this... they don't have a boxing board on the SPORTING NEWS.

But please don't let the SPORTING NEWS influence anything on here! If a boxing board is wanted on this forum, let it happen!

Actually i think we had some jackass not too long ago that claimed to be a "bocser"

I'm convinced that choo-choo boy was a fake. Not a real boxer, but still quite funny. (No, I have nothing against boxers. It's a rough sport.)

Well, part of me believed he was for real. It was ages after he left when I signed up but his posts remain, to be looked back on and laughed at by all the members, particularly those who were involved in the fray. As I say, boxers aren't renowned for their intellectual ability, and I'm being serious when I say that. So many blows to the head from playing boxing at a professional level can cause early onset of problems like dementia. It is the worst sport for the brain.
I believe that mike_the_pain_train is the sort of opposition the possible "Boxing Sucks" board would receive. Nothing serious. The sort of stuff you'd expect coming from someone who takes constant blows to the head in the name of "sport".

Perhaps the art of the fight is one of the things they don't want to miss. Different people have different wishes for life. But I would never do boxing even if the event included a playlist of 1980's music over the loudspeakers. No matter how much you tempt me I'm not going to do anything that involves risking serious injury. I just wasn't made for that!

And we strayed off topic by talking about boxing.

So, getting back o0n topic again . . . . .

Yes, it really sucks that a family man would prefer a sporting event over his wife and kid.

But then, I have know a few redneck sports fans who make their wives and kids shut up during a game on TV, and then, they beat the ever-living crap out of their wives and kids when their favorite team loses the big game of the season.

This is a rather common occurrence in the southern states where sports fans have sex with barnyard animals.
