Sorry, Greencom. The reason why we've gotten off topic is because SportsGuy92 seems to have left us (at least for now). In the meantime (if you haven't already), you can read the four posts that I addressed to him on Page 4.greencom wrote:Aren't we getting completely off the topic?

No need to apologize Earl, I was just being an old grump, sorry. I hate it when the sports type barge in and leave just when we're really building up a head of steam. Thanks everyone for putting up with my old fogeyness.

There's nothing to apologize for, Greencom. You weren't being an old grump. Despite his initial criticisms, SportsGuy92 actually was a nice guy. He's certainly the most reasonable and open-minded critic who's ever visited this website. I wish he'd stuck around. The people who really irk me are the haters who come in here only one time, deliver their volley of insults, and then leave (as if they're too cowardly to defend their views). Perhaps I'm naive, but someday I'd like to see an actual dialogue with one of these haters that would lead to greater understanding on both sides. Of course, the people on both sides have to be willing to listen.

Sorry about the delay, like I said before I have limited computer access especially to do something that takes up this much time.
Fat Man:
I never said I had a job in sports, if you had read what I had said before you could determine that I am currently in high school, in a family that shares one computer. Yes, building a telescope does take a lot of hard work, but more than sports? How do you think Olympic gold medal winners got to where they are? Don't say football is for retards, you need to have some intelligence, and not just if you're a coach; as a player you need to know all of your team's plays and if one person fails to execute, the whole team suffers.
Millhouse:
The reason why I am here is to defend sports is to show that can be used for good, and make it clear that not all sports fans are the way many of the ones on here are. No, I don't introduce myself in real life like you asked if I do, and sorry if I'm being rude. I'm not looking for anybody's sympathy, I understand that everyone here doesn't like sports, I just don't want a select few bad athletes or sports fans to be representative of all who like sports.
greencom:
Sports can be mentally stimulating and challenging too, in addition their physical benefits. Like you, I have my prejudices towards what I like and dislike as far as my entertainment, and just because they may be more popular than some of the things you like (by the way I would like to restore a classic car someday as well), that doesn't make my into a mindless sheep, borg, or whatever you want to call me.
Ray:
The "boorish behavior of sports fans" has nothing to do with the fact that they like sports, it's all about the fact that what they like is accepted as the norm, and as i said if liking something else was the norm, those followers would behave the same way.
Earl:
As I said before football players' popularity and the arrogance comes from the fact that what they enjoy is validated above all other sports or activities. If you want to know what high-school football coaches actually encourage their players to act with character and avoid bullying, mine does. In August of last year, we were having our our two-a-day practices, with one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and a lunch break in between. We were all eating lunch in the hallway by the gym as we always do. Some members of the marching band walked down the hallway with their instruments, and a few players began to throw food at them. They told their band director about this, who then told our head coach. At the beginning of the afternoon session, during the time that is designated for us to hear him speak, he told us, "I heard that some of you guys were throwing food at the band members. Shame on you. They work hard too, and they are at every one of our games to support you. I don't know exactly who it was, but the next time you see them you need to apologize for it." This is not an exact quote, but that was his general message. To answer you question about knowing for sure that there are no athletes like Hoffschneider at my school, 1) I know most of the athletes at my school and 2) Even if I didn't know them, if they do the kind of extreme bullying Hoffschneider did they would get a reputation fast.

I'm speechless... a coach that isn't biased... my god... really? Well that isn't as good as Relic Developers who actually listen to my complaints when I say that the game mechanics aren't good, that Space Marines deserve to be all horrible, and vehicles have bad path finding, and all of those are going to happen next patch. What? They through food at them? How is that not Hoffschneider type stuff? I'm off to complain that Tier 2 cost is too high and that it needs to go down!

Re: Non-ignorant athlete/sports fan here- please read
Welcome back SportsGuy92.
I see you have come back from the dead after I had turned you into chocolate!
OK! All kidding aside.
Yes, I do acknowledge that unlike most sports fans or athletes that I have ever know, you are more polite (certainly more polite than I am, or will ever be) and you were not a bully. And I acknowledge that your coach (unlike most coaches I have known) is a decent human being who will not abide any kind of bullying or harassment from his athletes.
I wish more athletes were like you, and that more coaches were like your coach. But unfortunately, most are not.
If you go the topic titled Coach Ehrmann which is at:
http://www.sportssuck.org/phpbb2/viewto ... f=1&t=1676
You will notice that I said the following . . .
At least he is doing something to counter the bullying done by too many athletes, and JOCKS.
OK, an athlete who is NOT a rude and obnoxious bully is only just an athlete.
But if an athlete (or assholete) IS a rude and obnoxious bully, then he is a JOCK!
So, while all JOCKS may be athletes, not all athletes are JOCKS!
But now, I must ask you this . . .
Even though you were not a bully when you were into sports . . . have you ever personally done anything, or at least personally made an attempt to counteract the bullying done by some of your fellow team mates?
Now if you have, then you have been part of the solution.
But if not, then you are part of the problem.
Even though you were never a bully, if you had made no attempt to prevent your fellow team mates from bullying, or at least confronted them with it, telling them that they are wrong, if you haven't done that, then you are part of the problem, even though you were never a bully yourself.
Yeah, I know, that's suppose to be the coaches job.
But it's also up to good athletes like you to set an example as well, and to also remind your fellow team mates when they are wrong, at the very least.
I also suggest that you go to a topic I had started, that is titled . . .
EL PASO UNDER SPORTS DICTATORSHIP! I DARE CALL IT TREASON!
It's at:
http://www.sportssuck.org/phpbb2/viewto ... f=1&t=1280
I hold sports responsible for all the pain and suffering I went through when I was just a kid going to school.
Now, even though I'm 57 years old, soon to be 58 years old on September 30, and that I'm just 2 fucking years away from being a senior citizen, I'm still getting screwed over by those in the sports profession.
I'm crippled up with arthritis in both knees and both ankles, and I walk with a cane. When I have been out walking around, doing my grocery shopping, it would be nice to have a bench to sit down on while waiting for a bus.
But the Don Haskins SPORTS CENTER, across the street from my favorite Walgreens pharmacy had requested to Sun Metro to have the bus stop benches removed, so now, I have to stand and stand and stand like a jack-ass in this donkey-fucking redneck piece-of-shit two-bit town!!!
So now, I have to go much further up Mesa Street to do my shopping, and to the second Walgreens pharmacy, because there are still benches to sit on while waiting for a bus.
But now, it means, that I have to do twice as much walking, and spend twice as many hours out in the hot sun, because the Big 8 Supermarket and the Walgreens are much further apart than the Albertsons and Walgreens that I use to go to, but at least, I can sit down after I had been walking around while waiting for a bus.
I've been fighting like Hell to get those benches put back where they belong.
When I called the Don Haskins SPORTS CENTER, I got their secretary, a bubble-headed bimbo with the IQ of a steam iron, and she said that the reason why they had the benches removed was because it didn't look good to have those benches there.
So I responded by saying "Oh! I see! It doesn't look good to see elderly people or disabled people sitting down on benches in front of your precious SPORTS CENTER! Eh? Well, if you looked bad before, you look even worse now! Your SPORTS CENTER now looks evil and sinister, more like NAZI HEADQUARTERS! The only thing missing is the pretty red flags with the swastikas!" It never occurred to them that people who are elderly or disable would like to sit down whie waiting for a bus.
But then . . . . . . . people who are in sports are not known to be great thinkers!
So, sports is still causing me pain and suffering.
And because you were into sports, then as far as I'm concerned, you are also the cause of my pain and suffering, just simply because you were involved in an endeavor that is absolutely evil and sinister!!!
Yeah, I know, you were never a bully, but you associated with bullies.
If you lay down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.
Therefore, it was because of sports, I was denied a decent education in our fucked up school system.
It was because of sports that I was beaten and raped at the age of 17, beck in the late 1960s when nobody believed that a guy could get raped!
And finally, because of sports, I'm still having to endure pain and suffering!
So, you owe me! JIMBO!!!
I see you have come back from the dead after I had turned you into chocolate!

But Joe Ehrmann is different. He actually teaches his players to behave more like human beings.
Too bad there are not more coaches like Joe Ehrmann.
Coaches like him are too few and too far between.
At least he is doing something to counter the bullying done by too many athletes, and JOCKS.

The secretary's jaw went slack, I could here her drooling as drops of spittle rained down on her desk, and then, she said that she really didn't know why the benches were moved.
So, I told the little brainless bimbo to connect me with somebody who does know.
Well, she connected me with someone who was in charge of Transportation And Parking at UTEP University.
He says hes going to work on the problem to see if he can get them to put the bus stop benches back where they belong.
But they have all been dragging their feet on this issue.
This is a battle that I've been fighting on my own, just me against my fair city of El Piss-hole Tex-ass!
And this has been going on since June 3, for just over a month now.

That's probably because they were the one's responsible for the removal of the benches, not the athletic departmentFat Man wrote:

Wow, but I will state again, playing games is actually better than sports. Mental > Physical strategy ftw.
