This article sucks

Post by abitagirl »

What is this author's advice to wives and girlfriends of football nuts? Learn about the game and become a sports nut yourself, of course! Besides, sitting on your fat ass all day and yelling at the screen is good for you. Really.

Sucky article

ETA: Oops, sorry about that long link. Any way to make it shorter?

Link fix'd.

To make URLs shorter, use the URL tags.

Example:

Code: Select all

[url=http://www.sportssuck.org/]Sports Suck! Website[/url]
The text between the tags should become this:
I've added a short comment on the article which probably sums up every member's thoughts on it.

Weird. I submitted it twice. It supposedly takes about five minutes for your comment to appear, but it's been several hours and nothing's appeared. Is there a limit of fifty comments, or something?

Anyway, my comment was simply:

This arcticle = teh fail.

Since it does fail. Massively. On a huge scale. By a factor a million.

Amazingly, psychologists have discovered that men and women who have a strong affinity toward a team are more likely to have higher self-esteem, have a truer sense of community, suffer less depression, and are more likely to be associated with groups than are non-fans.
So, in essence, the crazier the sports nut, the more emotionally sound he/she is.
What a load of crap. I sincerely doubt there is one shred of evidence to back up this unsupported claim. I'll write the author and ask. If there is any evidence at all I'll bet it's an unscientific survey sponsored by Sports Illustrated that consisted of the author calling her friends and asking their opinion.

What a pile of manure. I am appalled!

Yep, that's sports fan logic for you.

EDIT: I wasn't able to find the author's e-mail address so I won't be able to refute that claim. Apparently she doesn't want anyone contacting her. Even on the website dedicated to her book, there's no e-mail address --only a place to list yours. No thanks.

I think you CAN e-mail her.

On the website prweb.com, there's a panel on the right headed Contact Information.

If you go here, you should be able to e-mail her.

I think it's a company website, so you'll probably need to let them know who the e-mail is intended for.

Give a link to the article and say you have a few questions about it. Hopefully, you'll get a response. Post your correspondence with her if you manage to get one going.

Making out with Superbowl wives & girlfriends

Post by resolvent »

I like to tell heterosexual male American football fanatics
that while they're watching their silly little Superbowl - or Rose Bowl -
or Toilet Bowl - game, I'm happily banging their abandoned
wives and girlfriends.

Wow, what a load of crap. I used to try to convert non-gamers into video game nerds like me but I gave that up after a while. Hopefully these efforts at self-conversion do not last too long.

From the comments page:

"Help! My current boyfriend and me got in a huge text message agument over sports last night...his teams lost the college team and the baseball team...he was home and texted me that he was not happy I tried to explain they are his passion and I love that he has that passion but he clearly blamed me for the losses!!!...I said "end of conversaition and talk to me when your not so upset....have not heard from him yet almost 12 hrs ago...i am just sick over it..."

Wow....that does not speak well. Why would you ask for help from the person who is encouraging you to get into the problem in the first place?

The fact of relationships is simply the more two people have in common with each other, likes & dislikes, the better off they are.

Sure if they both "cheer for the same team", that gives them something else in common to build upon their relationship. But only if they really both like that team.
Likewise if they both hate sports and, say, both like the same music...that too gives them something in common to build their relationship.

A woman forcing herself to try to like something that she doesn't just so she can make her man happy is going to end up pretty unhappy herself in the long run. Just like she tried to pretend to be a different religion for him...or pretend that she likes his country music even though she hates it and would rather listen to jazz. It's all the same.

This was a bad article 100%.

For once I"m hoping you're right. Its kinda hilarious when I think about it but still wrong.
"We believe in Vader, the Darth almighty, destroyer of Alderaan and the Sith. We believe in Luke, his only son, our Jedi. He was concieved by the power of the Force, and born of the senator Padme. Suffered under Darth Sidius, electrocuted, survived and partied with Ewoks. He descended to the Death Star, on the third hour he flew out in an Imperial ship and landed on Endor. He is seated on the right hand of Obi-Wan's ghost. He will come again to train Leia to be a Jedi. We believe? in Yoda.........:D

It is quite wrong and probably not true. It's still kind of funny though. I'm sure that happens sometimes, eyes glued to the tv set could create opportunities for infidelity.
