SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE 21 OCT 09

On 21 October at 0300 Eastern time I am going to attempt a board upgrade which will hopefully include better anti-spam measures and more features. The current PHPBB3 software is version 3.05. This board is running on version 3.00 --5 upgrades behind. Before running the upgrade, I will back up the board's database and, after installing the new software, reinstall the saved database. If posts are made during the upgrade, they may be inadvertently lost. The upgrade shouldn't take more than 2 hours. Thanks for your patience.

Yes. I'm not sure but maybe this ugrade will include the feature you described. Skul says the version we have now does not. But the system needs to be upgraded anyway.

I hope this purges the spammer's post's. Also does this mean we get a new layout, for the forum?

No --it should remain exactly the same.

You know, Ray, before upgrading, you could put the forum into "maintenance mode" by turning the option on in the ACP.

General > Board settings > Disable board

This should stop people from posting and give them a message about the maintenance. Then, once the upgrade is done, turn maintenance off.

I'll leave that up to you. I don't know what time it will be over here at 0300 EST. And anyway, you'll know exactly when you'll be updating. I don't want to stop people from posting, only to have it end up you've been delayed an hour... or a day... or a week.

Good idea! I will do that. I made a note to myself to remember to take the board OUT of maintenance mode afterwards so don't worry.

That will be 1:00 AM Mountain Daylight Time here in El Paso, Texas.

So, I guess tonight, I won't be posting anything for about 2 hours.

I'm usually up late at night watching something on TV, and there's going to be a good movie on the Science Fiction Channel, a movie titled "Lost Voyage" about seven people boarding a ship that returns 25 years after disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle.

It should be really cool!!!

Thanks! I was allowing extra time because I am often S-L-O-W and make mistakes and need extra time to fix them. Hopefully the up-to-date software will slow down the spammers!

Uhhh, Ray? There's one little problem. It used to be I could get back to the main page of the site when I clicked on the logo at the top, but now I stay in the forum when I click on it, and I don't see any other way to get back to the main page.

Nice job otherwise (just so you don't think I'm nitpicky ).
